Frank Lampard to talk to Jorginho and Timo Werner over Chelsea penalty-taking duties

According to Football.london, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is set to have a chat with Timo Werner and Jorginho.

The topic for the conversation will be the penalty-taking duties at the club. The trip to Krasnodar saw Jorginho miss from the spot while Werner dispatched his with ease.

Jorginho has been the first-choice penalty taker since he joined the club two years ago. Usually a dependable choice, he has already missed two spot-kicks this season.

“I’ve got no problem with either in terms of the penalty taking, not just Timo and Jorginho, we have other possibilities at the club.”

If needed, Lampard can make use of a number of other players already at the club as well. Given the quality in our squad, there should not be a dearth of players who can be counted upon.

Lampard is keen to address the hierarchy involved before our trip to Turf Moor. With the pecking order decided, the players on the pitch can then go about their business when needed.

“It will be something I will broach before Burnley because it’s important as we’ve seen with history that we need it to be very clear going into the game who are the designated penalty-takers.”

Despite his profligacy of late, Lampard does not seem to have lost faith in Jorginho.

“With Jorginho, if you’re going to take penalties as regularly as he does – and I did – you’re going to miss some.”

As someone who took penalties himself, Lampard is aware of the myriad of factors that can impact the result.

While not having to worry about players picking themselves is fine, a pep talk from the manager is sure to lift the spirits and remove any indecision.

It is good to see the Blues boss take the bull by the horns and nip it in the bud at the first turn itself.
