According to The Athletic, Chelsea are set to face competition from Liverpool for Grimsby Town duo Louis Boyd and Ben Grist.
At 15 years and 324 days, Boyd became Grimsby Town’s youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer when he netted against Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy on September 8.
The youngster then went on to make his league debut just four days later in a 1-0 loss to Walsall.
Grist may not have distinguished himself like Boyd and was on the bench in Grimsby’s 2-2 draw against Harrogate. A match they eventually won 7-6 on penalties.
Both the youngsters have caught the eye of Premier League teams. Having endured a £700,000 loss due to the coronavirus pandemic, Grimsby might well have to sell their prized assets.
Although the domestic window is set to run until October 16, a deal for the duo this summer looks unlikely. That could however change next year.
Chelsea have enjoyed an excellent window that has seen them land several top names. The likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Ben Chilwell could usher in a new era of dominance at Stamford Bridge.
The club has also brought in players with an eye on the future. This includes Malang Sarr, Nathan Baxter, and Xavier Mbuyamba.
Chelsea return to action this week against Southampton. The Blues could welcome back Hakim Ziyech, who is yet to make his competitive debut for the club.
