According to Sky Sports Italia (h/t Daily Mail), former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is determined to secure a reunion with Blues’ defender Marcos Alonso at Inter Milan.
Conte managed Chelsea for two years between 2016 and 2018, winning a Premier League and an FA Cup.
It was the Italian tactician who signed Alonso, in his first window in charge. And the Spaniard was a regular presence in the team back then, excelling in the role of the left wing-back.
However, since Conte’s departure Alonso has been in and out of the side, with Maurizio Sarri preferring Emerson Palmieri, while Frank Lampard often used Cesar Azpilicueta ahead of the two.
Now that Chelsea have spent heavily to sign Ben Chilwell, Alonso’s place in the team is under question. And, Conte is keen to make the most of the situation by reuniting with his former ward at Inter Milan. (h/t Daily Mail)
However, a move for Alonso will depend on whether the Nerazzurri are able to offload wing-back Henrique Dalbert, who is back after a loan spell from Fiorentina. (h/t Daily Mail)
Emerson is also seemingly on his way out of the club, with Napoli leading the chase for the Italian.
Offloading both Alonso and Emerson in the same transfer window might not be the smartest of the moves. Given the fixture pile-up this season, squad depth is very much important so that Lampard can rest and rotate his players adequately.
It remains to be seen who among the two left-backs will be allowed to leave the Bridge this summer.
