Frank Lampard to turn his attention towards a goalkeeper and a left-back once Kai Havertz is secured

According to the Daily Star, Frank Lampard has earmarked his transfer priorities once Chelsea sign Kai Havertz.

The German ace has long since been linked with a move to Chelsea. With Bayer Leverkusen crashing out of the Europa League, the onus is now once more on the club to work out a deal for Havertz.

The 21-year-old showcased his ability as he scored once again on the night. But it was not enough as Inter Milan prevailed 2-1.

Once Havertz is confirmed, the Blues boss will attempt to bring in a goalkeeper and a left-back. Given the troubles Chelsea have had at the back, it will come as no surprise to the fans.

Leicester City star Ben Chilwell is the club’s preferred choice at left-back. However, with Leicester slapping a world-record fee on his head, the Blues are also looking at other options.

This includes Ajax Amsterdam star Nicolas Tagliafico and Real Madrid starlet Sergio Reguilon. Both players would be a considerable upgrade on the options we possess right now. (h/t Daily Star)

Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have struggled to make an impression at left-back. This has at times forced Lampard to deploy Cesar Azpilicueta in their stead.

A dependable goalkeeper who acts as a last line of defence is something the Blues could do with. So far, Kepa Arrizabalaga has made a mockery of the world-record fee that was paid to sign him.

Lampard has dropped the under-fire Spaniard in favour of Willy Caballero a number of times this season. However, the Argentine is not a long-term option and Chelsea will also need someone better.

Chelsea have enjoyed an excellent transfer window so far. They have brought in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to massively boost the attack.

However, it looks as if Lampard is leaving the best for the last. The Blues have ambitions to challenge at the top and unless the Achilles heel at the back is covered up, we risk the threat of falling short.
