Chelsea could bring in three new players by next week

Chelsea have enjoyed an excellent transfer season in comparison to our rivals.

Despite losing the likes of Pedro and Willian, the club has brought in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. The Blues’ activity this summer is far from done though.

According to Football.London, Chelsea could complete the signings of as many as three players by next week.

With Champions League football on the table and a stronger team at his disposal, Lampard can attempt to build upon the promise shown last campaign.

Despite the optimism generated, the FA Cup final loss coupled with the Champions League mauling showed we are still short of quality to compete at the top.

That looks like something the club is keen to address as soon as possible. The trio of Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, and Thiago Silva could all make their way to the Bridge in the next seven days. (h/t Football.london)

Ben Chilwell is closing in on a transfer to Chelsea

While the former two are young talented players with excellent potential, Silva is a seasoned veteran with years of stellar performances under his belt.

Strength at the back

The Chelsea defence has been a constant spot of bother for Frank Lampard throughout last season. By bringing in both Chilwell and Thiago, he will look to address just that.

Chilwell is a an upgrade over both Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri. The Chelsea duo have failed to impress when given the opportunity. The Leicester City star is excellent in both the attack and defence, and could prove to be a trump card in Lampard’s attacking system.

Thiago Silva will bring leadership to the backline

Although he will turn 36 next months, Silva is a player who will bring both experience and leadership to the back four. The Brazilian is lacking for pace but makes up for it with his excellent reading of the game.

He is unlikely to be a long-term option but his ability to organize the defence could prove to be a dealmaker. Moreover, the ability to bring him in as a free agent will help us offset the more expensive purchases this summer.

More Chelsea News

Chelsea have wasted no time and have moved quickly to address key weaknesses in the squad.

With a better squad at his disposal, Lampard will have the weight of expectations on his shoulder. If his record as a player is anything is to go by, he will relish the chance to thrive under pressure.
