As confirmed by the club’s official site, Billy Gilmour has won the Chelsea Academy Player of the Year for the 2019/20 campaign.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an excellent breakout season at the Bridge. He made 11 appearances across all competitions before a knee injury cut his season short.
The midfielder joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Scottish side Rangers. He progressed through the youth ranks quickly, eventually winning the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August 2019. (h/t Chelsea FC)
His performances saw him get rewarded with a new contract and he went on to make his senior debut.
Although the Premier League 2’s season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chelsea were declared champions on a points-per-game basis.

The youngster showcased a special affinity when up against Merseyside based teams. This was reflected in his man of the match performances against both Liverpool and Everton.
His performance against Liverpool was especially memorable given the quality of the opposition. It proved to be more than a one-off as he continued to impress for Frank Lampard’s side.
It is the second end-of-season award won by a Chelsea academy star. Fikayo Tomori won the award for the best goal for his strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Incidentally, the defender had won the Academy Player of the season in 2016. Alongside Mason Mount and Reese James, Gilmour is now the fourth awardee to play a role in the Chelsea first-team last season. (h/t Chelsea FC)
Croatian international Mateo Kovacic won the Chelsea Player of the Season. If Gilmour keeps up with his development, there is no reason why he cannot follow in Kovacic’s footsteps.
