Chelsea ready to step up the transfer for Nicolas Tagliafico

According to Transfermarketweb (h/t Express), Chelsea will intensify their efforts to sign Ajax Amsterdam defender Nicolas Tagliafico.

The Argentine international is set to leave the Dutch giants in the summer window. Having already bolstered his attack with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Frank Lampard is now looking to strengthen his rearguard.

Left-back is a position that needs strengthening. Both Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso have not impressed Frank Lampard.

Chelsea to ramp up efforts to sign Nicolas Tagliafico

Although Chelsea have been heavily linked to Ben Chilwell, the Englishman’s eye-watering asking price continues to be an issue. Tagliafico, on the other hand, is an economical option who has experience of playing at the highest level.

It was revealed by the player’s agent in May that his client will be leaving Ajax this summer. (h/t Express)

“We have agreed with Ajax that he would leave this year.”

The 27-year-old joined Ajax in 2018 and has made 99 appearances for the club. He has scored 12 goals and 15 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Tagliafico’s versatility also sees him turn out as a competent centre-back. This can give us more options, especially when we look to play three at the back.

Tagliafico has made 25 appearances for the Argentina national team. He was a part of the national squad that participated in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 Copa America.
