Cesar Azpilicueta speaks out on Timo Werner signing

Speaking to Sky Sports, Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has praised the club’s decision to bring in Timo Werner.

The 24-year-old German ace looked to be heading to Liverpool just over two weeks ago. A dramatic turnaround since has seen the Reds drop out and Werner book a ticket to join Frank Lampard’s revolution at the Bridge.

Joining Hakim Ziyech as the newest Blue recruit, the Grman represents a marked jump in quality up front.

“He’s a big addition for our club. He can raise our level.”

Cesar Azpilicueta has high hopes for Timo Werner

Azpilicueta believes that Werner can help us reach the top once again. Currently in fourth position, the Blues are not where they want to be. Werner can play a key part in us closing the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

“He’s an amazing player, we know we to have help him to find the best position to score goals and also to adapt to the league as quickly as possible is very important.”

A proven goalscorer, Werner has enjoyed a prolific season at RB Leipzig. He has netted 32 goals and 13 assists in 43 appearances for RB Leipzig so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)

An excellent player off the ball, his movement is also known to cause opposition defenders problems. Having proven himself capable of competing in the Champions League, Werner arrives with a huge reputation.

Chelsea announced Timo Werner today

Our summer activity is extremely important given the lack of transfers happening among our rivals. The coronavirus crisis has ensured that not many can compete for the best talents at the moment.

This can give us a competitive edge and can see us leaving our rivals behind in the race to the top. Azpilicueta believes this can help the current Chelsea players raise their levels.

“He’s a big addition for our club. He can raise our level.”
