Chelsea to enter race for Bayern star Jerome Boateng

According to Christian Falk of German publication Bild (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are set to enter the race for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The 31-year-old has seen opportunities hard to come by under Hans-Dieter Flick and is likely to leave the club this summer.

Boateng has been at the Allianz Arena since 2011 and has won a plethora of trophies with Die Roten. He is on course to win an impressive eighth straight Bundesliga title and was a part of the Bayern squad that won five trophies in 2013.

The defender was linked with a move to Arsenal in January. The deal failed to materialize as he chose to stay and fight for his place instead.

The decision has paid off, with the player missing just two games since. He has made 24 appearances so far this season.

With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2021, his long-term future at Bayern has been brought into question. The Blues failed to replace the outgoing David Luiz last season and are in need of a defensive reinforcement. (h/t Daily Star)

Arsenal, who brought David Luiz from us too are in the race following the long-term injury to Callum Chambers. Boateng was fined by Bayern after he crashed his car while failing to comply with the lockdown measures imposed by the club. (h/t Daily Star)

His decision to do so can be partially understood as he stepped out to visit his son in the hospital.

The 31-year-old is an experienced individual who has played in some of world football’s biggest games. He also has prior Premier League experience, having turned out 16 times for Manchester City.

The defender is entering the twilight of his career, but he will bring a wealth of experience to our side.

Considering the youngsters coming through our setup at the moment, having a veteran who has won the biggest prizes in world football will prove to be both a source of inspiration and guidance.
