Chelsea will be spending a large portion of their summer transfer budget on recruiting a new centre-forward. This is according to former Blues midfielder Craig Burley (h/t Express).
Chelsea were intent on bringing in a new centre-forward in the January transfer window, with manager Frank Lampard not entirely satisfied with the options at his disposal (h/t Express).
And Burley reckons that his former club will rekindle their search for a new striker and spend a large chunk of the transfer budget to strengthen that position when the summer transfer window comes along.
“They’re probably going to go out and spend the majority of their budget on a striker, on an out-and-out front man,” Burley said (h/t Express).
It makes complete sense that our club could spend heavily on a new striker in the summer. While Tammy Abraham enjoyed a spectacular start to the season, the Englishman’s form was on the decline well before the campaign was suspended.
Michy Batshuayi hasn’t done enough to warrant a starting berth, while Olivier Giroud is out of contract at the end of the season. So recruiting a top-class centre-forward to lead our attack next season should be a top priority for Lampard.
Burley also added that the Blues might look to bring in another central defender or a midfielder, but ruled out any signings in the wide areas, with the club already having recruited Hakim Ziyech from Ajax (h/t Express).
It remains to be seen what the situation will be when the transfer window opens.
