Chelsea striker Oliver Giroud’s agent has opened upon the Frenchman’s failed move to Inter Milan in the January transfer window, according to Sempreinter (h/t Football.London)
The 33-year-old was at the fringes this season and was behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Bathuayi in Frank Lampard’s pecking order.
With opportunities hard to come by, the Frenchman looked likely to leave the club in January.
The former Arsenal man was linked with a move to Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.
Ultimately it wasn’t to be and the striker stayed at Chelsea. The player’s agent Mattero Materazzi has revealed what happened in the background with regards to the move to Inter.
“Ten days before the market closed it was done.”
The agent revealed that the Italian giants were very close to the move, but the circumstances surrounding Politano and Spinazzola led to the collapse of the move.
With Abraham injured and Batshuayi in poor form, Giroud has recently made most of his opportunities.
Giroud was rewarded with a start against Tottenham following his impressive cameo against Manchester United. He repaid Lampard’s faith in him by opening the scoring in a 2-1 win.
The French World Cup winner is out of contract in the summer. He will move for free if he doesn’t sign an extension at the Bridge.
