Chelsea are likely to miss out on the transfer race of Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho owing to the transfer ban and the presence of PSG, according to the Sun.
The Brazilian playmaker wants to seek an exit from Nou Camp after failing to live up to his expectations.
Coutinho moved to Barca last year from Liverpool with the intentions to lift the Champions League title. But his flying start with Barca only flattered to deceive as he suffered a clear dip in form this season, eventually becoming a culprit for the Spanish club’s semi-final defeat in Champions League.
And his constant injury struggles also complicated his situation, casting further doubts over his future. The Blues eyed the Brazilian as their replacement for Eden Hazard, who recently signed for Real Madrid.
Now, as FIFA’s stance over the club’s transfer ban remains uncertain, Coutinho’s move to Stamford Bridge looks an unlikely one.
Furthermore, Ligue 1 giants PSG are upping their efforts to add Coutinho to the string of his fellow compatriots Neymar, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Dani Alves.
Blues manager Maurizio Sarri is eyeing a Serie A move with Juventus turning out to be his next destination.
