Chelsea legend John Terry has decided to call it quits after a trophy-laden career. The English defender left Aston Villa at the start of the season and was a free agent before he decided to retire from football.

Terry spent 22 years at Chelsea, winning 15 major honours. However, he left the side last season to join the Villans.

The legend narrowly missed out on taking Villa back to the Premier League, as they lost in the play-off final against Fulham.

Terry posted an emotional message on Instagram regarding his decision to retire from the game.

The 37-year-old played 717 games for the Blues and scored 67 goals, which is a club record for a defender.

The Englishman couldn’t get a lot done for the Three Lions but he certainly was one of the best ever defenders in the Premier League.

A number of Chelsea fans decided to pay their respects to their legend on Twitter and here are some of the best messages.
