According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea will not sell Ruben Loftus-Cheek this summer but are willing to let him leave on a loan deal. The youngster, who is currently in Russia with Gareth Southgate’s England squad, recently hit the headlines for claiming that he is keen to move to a new club to play regular football.
Since the 22-year-old has 3 years left on his contract with us, it does make sense to retain his services. He enjoyed a brilliant season with Crystal Palace, which saw him book a spot in the England squad. However, uncertainty continues to surround his future.
As things stand, it is clear that he is unlikely to receive adequate first-team opportunities at Chelsea. Despite being one of the most talented midfielders in the country, Loftus-Cheek would have to play second-fiddle to the likes of N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas.
We are yet to indulge in any transfer activity this summer but if we sign a new midfielder, Loftus-Cheek will be pushed further below the pecking order.
For someone as promising as him, it is important to play regularly to develop further. But for now, it seems like a loan deal is the best he can hope for.
The Sun goes on to claim that the likes of Everton and West Ham United are interested in his services. In addition to them, Palace are also open to the idea of signing him on loan for another season.
One way or the other, Loftus-Cheek will reach his true potential one day but it is unfortunate that a player of his calibre has found it tough to cement a spot for himself in the Chelsea first-team.
