Chelsea’s Napoli raid continues as 32-year-old veteran emerges as Blues target

Raul Albiol

Chelsea are interested in the services of Spanish defender Raul Albiol, according to The Mirror. The report claims that while we are trying to sign Maurizio Sarri from Napoli, Albiol is a player we are looking to sign ahead of the new season.

The 32-year-old has spent five seasons with Napoli after leaving Real Madrid and even picked up the World Cup with Spain. Hence, he is an experienced player to have in the team.

The centre-back could be a cheap player to get given his age but the major problem would be his contract length, given that he is 32.

Albiol would provide more experience at the back but we also require someone that Sarri can trust and help learn more about the dressing room, so the transfer does make some sense.

The Spaniard has played for some of the biggest sides in the world and this could be his one final contract too as he looks to try his hand in English football.

With Carlo Ancelotti taking over the manager’s role at Napoli, it is only a matter of time before Sarri leaves the Serie A giants.

Hopefully, we can clear out any confusion about who our next manager would be and bring in Sarri. The Italian will then be able to finalise some transfers and get the players to transform the Blues and help us make it to the top-four next season.
