Chelsea were linked with a number of players this summer, however, the Blues ended up leaving it to the deadline day to boost their squad.
Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso is set to head to the Bridge in a deal worth £24m, having been linked with the Blues for a few weeks now. Chelsea have reached an agreement with the player over personal terms. The 25-year-old is set for his third spell in the Premier League, having played for Bolton between 2010 and 2013 and spending a six-month loan spell with Sunderland in 2014.
Although Alonso is set to arrive at the Bridge, Chelsea want to sign one more defender in the squad and are hence linked with their former player David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain.
New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has made it clear a centre-back was top of his priority list with moves for Alessio Romagnoli at AC Milan and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli falling through so far. David Luiz could be set for a stunning return to Chelsea with the Premier League club offering £30m plus add-ons to Paris Saint-Germain, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea sold Luiz in 2014 in a deal worth £50m to PSG, and now the Blues are looking out to re-sign the player. Luiz is currently rated at £32m by PSG. Chelsea are reportedly prepared to make a bid for the player, who failed to impress at the French outfit and PSG Manager Unai Emery is considering letting go of the player this summer.
