Loan Is The Best Chelsea Youngster Could Hope For

Sometimes a career at a top-flight club doesn’t always pan out how you would want it to go. Discovered as a younger, thrust into the first team and become a legend of that club. Only a handful every achieve that legendary status, but so many thousands try. Some of these players aren’t even given a chance to prove themselves worthy as they are sent on loan for a majority of the early stages in their career and then sold.

Chelsea are known for sending a number of fine young players on loan and Tomas Kalas is set to be the latest to leave the club for the 2014/2015 campaign, as the Express have reported. However, the publication also suggested that Jose Mourinho has compiled a list of three centre-backs who could be brought in to add depth; putting that David Luiz money to good use. Mourinho is said to be interested in Raphael Varane, Eliaquim Mangala and Mehdi Benatia. Varane is supposed to be top of his list after the two worked together for Real Madrid in the 2012/2013 season.

For Kalas, this is the best he could have hoped for. At the age of 21, he’s at a critical juncture is his career where it can either boom or flop. He should be grateful he hasn’t been sold as the Blues do have quite a list of centre-backs available and there’s constant reports linking them with moves for more. If Kalas doesn’t seriously impress for Cologne then he could find that next season may well be his last on the books at Chelsea.

What the Czech Republic international needs is regular first-team action after appearing just four times for the Blue Lions this season. His time at Cologne should see him given that stage to prove to the Chelsea hierarchy that he is worthy of more than just four appearances. This is why a loan deal is perfect for him because he has the talent, he showed that when played against Liverpool towards the tail-end of the season which saw Mourinho’s men triumph over the Merseysiders. He managed to keep a clean sheet in that game despite Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge both playing.
