Serie A hitman next at the Bridge?

Would Cavani bid mean the end for Torres?

There is no doubt who was star of the show as Napoli finished a commendable 2nd place finish in Serie A, just 6 points behind the winners Juventus.

Edinson Cavani scored 29 of the Azzuri’s 73 goals in Serie A last season and has once again become hot property around Europe’s elite clubs. The 26-year old has dramatically improved over the last year or two, and that could well lead to him pursuing a career away from Naples, and most likely in England.

Man City and Chelsea are the favourites to secure the Uruguayan, but with the Manchester club shelling over £30m for Fernandinho, we could well be poised to sign Cavani this summer, especially with doubts over Fernando Torres’ future long-term, and Romelu Lukaku set for another season away from London.

Roma’s president has reported turned down a bid for Erik Lamela from Napoli, further fuelling reports that Cavani is set for a move away from the club.

He would certainly be the type of player that would be welcome through the doors at the Bridge, averaging nearly a goal a game is something that we have not seen for a while from a Chelsea player, while he also has a pass completion rate a full 8% higher than Fernando’s.

With a fee rumoured to cost around £45m for the Napoli forward, if we could recoup £30m+ for Torres, it may well be a great coup, though I wouldn’t put it past Mourinho keeping both, especially with the chance of a 60+ game season again, providing all goes well in Europe.

Those that query whether he could do it in the Prem, will only have to look at his performance against us where he scored and set u two for Lavezzi in a game most of us would like to forget. He also bagged at the Etihad in 2011, and a brace against them in Naples. It so happens he seems to love playing English opposition.

He scored just the once in the 2010 World Cup, as a mere 23 year old, but even that was against the mighty force of Germany. When the 2014 World Cup rolls around next summer in Brazil, he will surely be ready to show the World what a four years it has been, and hopefully, as already a Chelsea player.

Do you think we need Cavani? Or would you target another forward? Let us know who!
