Ashley Cole is certainly no stranger to negative press, but the latest hit to his ever-fading popularity was nothing short of stupid from the Chelsea and England left back. Just when you thought the whole John Terry and Anton Ferdinand race feud couldn’t get any worse, Cole’s recent tweet slating the F.A has unearthed a whole new can of worms.

It’s sure to be one hell of a party then if and when Cole reaches the one hundred cap milestone, which is likely to take place against San Marino next Friday. Roy Hodgson is even considering handing the defender the captaincy to mark the landmark cap.

What is that saying then about the state of affairs at England HQ? “OK Ashley, you slagged us off to the nation but here’s a nice little celebration, a thank you from the F.A for your services to the national side.”

You can’t see Cole getting that kind of reception, but the fact is the left back is perhaps England’s best ever player in that position, so this outburst certainly puts the F.A in a sticky situation.
