Euro 2012 Predictions: Czech Rep. vs Portugal

Czech Republic vs Portugal (1945 GMT)

So, after a days rest, we start the quarter-final stages of Euro 2012. This fixture will be a shock to many, as both Netherlands and Russia were most people picks for this clash, but have both been knocked out of the group stages.

Portugal will no doubt look for Ronaldo and Nani as their main outlets, and if they turn it on, then the Czechs might have some trouble, considering they shipped four goals to Russia on Matchday 1.

Raul Meireles picked up a knock against Netherlands, but should be back for this clash, along with defender Bruno Alves.

The Czechs and sweating on Tomas Rosicky, who is influential to their midfield, but could be ruled out yet again.

Despite posting a negative goal difference in the Group stages, they did the same in Euro ’96, and ended up reaching the final. The task might be a slight bit harder this time, and they will do to get past the heavily backed Portugal.

I expect this to be a interesting match, and if the Czechs can get a bit of luck, I don’t see any reason why they can’t upset the odds here. It was another profitable day on Tuesday, to the tune of £36 off £10 bets.

Over 2.5 goals @ 6/5
Portugal to win by 1 @ 12/5
Draw HT/Portugal FT @ 10/3
Czech Republic to win either half @ 6/4

Prediction: Czech Republic 2 (Baros,Pilar) Portugal 3 (Pepe, Ronaldo,Nani)
