Everton 1 Chelsea 0
Jermaine Beckford’s impressive solo goal gave 10-man Everton victory over Chelsea on Sunday.
The ex-Leeds striker broke from his own half and held off half-challenges from the Chelsea defence before confidently chipping over Petr Cech in the 74th minute to score the only goal of the game.
The home side finished the game with ten-men after Seamus Coleman was sent off early in the second-half for two yellow cards, the dismissal followed a reckless challenge on midfield player Jon Mikel Obi.
The board did not leave it long before announcing shortly after the game that they had parted company
with manager Carlo Ancelotti. There are many who will be sad to see the double winning coach leave, during the defeat the fans were still singing his name.
With Didier Drogba out injured, Carlo chose Nicolas Anelka and Fernando Torres to play in attack but unfortunately they failed to impress.
The Evertonian’s win saw them finish seventh, an impressive effort having got the season off to a bad start.
Defender Phil Jaglielka had the best chance in the first-half, when he hit the bar from a header from a Mikl Arteta croner.
Chelsea had a good chance in the second-half when John Terry hit the post from a 20-yard drive but it was the home side who managed to take the points.
