Mauricio Pochettino reveals Chelsea could be without two key players for the game against Everton

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has provided a new injury update ahead of this weekend’s Premier League match against Everton at Stamford Bridge, as the boss continues to battle injury setbacks.

Preparing to play Sean Dyche’s Everton at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea, who are having a disastrous season, understand that they must put on a decent performance if they are to relieve the rising pressure on Pochettino.

Chelsea will aim to welcome back some players before facing Everton on Monday night. However, if the Blues are to gain anything from Everton, they may need to do so without the assistance of Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi.

Injury update on the star duo

Disasi and Fernandez, according to a recent report from the Italian reporter, Fabrizio Romano, have joined the Blues’ already long injury list and remain doubts for the club’s next fixture.

Disasi and Fernandez’s pair, who have played a combined 78 games this season, are questionable for the Monday night match. According to the post, the couple are ‘undergoing medical assessment’. Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Pochettino said:

“We’ll see, Enzo and Axel are under assessment. They have different types of issues. We don’t believe they are big issues but we will see if they can be available.”

“At the moment, for now they are not training with the group after Sheffield United and that is why we don’t know if they can be involved or not on Monday.”

The news wasn’t quite so good for Disasi and Fernandez. But there is a slight chance that the duo could still recover just in time for the Monday’s clash against Everton. There is no doubt in the fact that Chelsea will desperately need their stars for the match.

A major blow for the Blues

In the brighter side, Ben Chilwell is back in ‘partial team training’ meaning he could be in contention to feature at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea still has long injury list with Nkunku, Levi Colwill, Lavia, James, Lesley Ugochukwu and Fofana all remain out and continue ‘to undergo’ their rehabilitation programmes.

For Pochettino, the challenge lies in devising a tactical approach that mitigates the absence of these key players while maintaining the team’s competitive edge. The midfield, in particular, will require a strategic reshuffle to compensate for Fernandez’s potential absence, as his presence often serves as a linchpin in the team’s overall structure and cohesion.

In the face of adversity, Pochettino must rally his troops, instilling confidence and resilience as they prepare to navigate the challenges ahead. While the absence of key personnel undoubtedly poses a challenge, it also presents an opportunity for other players to step up and make their mark on the team.
