Chelsea up against PSG in the race to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko and his potential departure from RB Leipzig has sparked interest across Europe, with the 20-year-old striker catching the eye of several top clubs including Chelsea.

Despite having a £42m release clause in his contract, Leipzig are open to negotiating a deal that may not require activating this clause. That is as per 90min. Sesko has enjoyed a breakout season with Leipzig, impressing with his goal-scoring prowess, having netted 12 times in 36 appearances across all competitions. His emergence as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers has attracted attention from clubs eager to bolster their attacking options.

Having joined Leipzig’s first-team squad last summer from Salzburg, Sesko initially opted to remain within the Red Bull system. However, after a year in the Bundesliga, sources indicate that he is now seeking a new challenge, prompting Leipzig to consider facilitating his exit.

Sesko to the Blues?

While Sesko’s release clause presents a significant valuation, Leipzig are willing to explore alternative deal structures, provided the overall value remains in the ballpark of the clause. This flexibility opens the door for potential suitors to negotiate terms that suit their respective financial situations.

Unsurprisingly, Sesko’s talents have not gone unnoticed in the Premier League, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United all expressing interest in securing his services. PSG also reportedly hold a keen interest in the Slovenia international, highlighting his broad appeal on the European stage.

For Chelsea, Sesko could emerge as an attractive option to bolster their attacking ranks, particularly as they seek a more cost-effective alternative to Victor Osimhen, whose Napoli contract contains a significantly higher release clause worth at least £103m.

Benjamin Sesko could surely prove to be a smart addition to the Chelsea lineup.

With Chelsea’s current strikers struggling to make an impact this season, the pursuit of Sesko signals their intent to address this area of the squad. Nicholas Jackson among others have not been it this season, and it is high time we bring in high-standard competition to strengthen the squad.

Overall, Sesko’s potential departure from RB Leipzig presents an intriguing opportunity for Chelsea to secure the services of a strong young striker who can form a core part of the future at Stamford Bridge.
