25-year-old versatile centre-back Malang Sarr, who last played for Chelsea in May 2022, is closer than ever to leaving the club in the summer. Calls for a rebuild of sorts have gained traction within the camp at Stamford Bridge and Sarr is among the players who might see the exit to help Chelsea financially.
That is as per The Sun. Given his versatility of being able to feature as a left-back, the Blues might get a decent fee for the Senegalese international. However, the fact that he last played nearly two years ago might also mean clubs would not spend as much money as Chelsea want for him.
He has made only 21 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions and has been below par in mostly all of those. While it is understandable how he is out of the squad, Chelsea could have shown a bit more class in managing his situation. However, that ship has sailed and it is only about time Sarr moves on from the Blues for the sake of his career, and save the club £100k per week.
While it’s unfortunate that Sarr hasn’t been able to make a bigger impact at Chelsea, it’s important for both the player and the club to move forward. Chelsea may be looking to recoup some of their investment in Sarr, while the player himself will be eager to kick-start his career elsewhere.
In hindsight, as we already said, perhaps Chelsea could have handled Sarr’s situation with more grace, but football is a business, and tough decisions often need to be made for the long-term benefit of the club. With Sarr likely to depart in the summer, both parties can now focus on their respective futures.
For Sarr, a move away from Chelsea could provide him with the opportunity for a fresh start and the chance to reignite his career. As for Chelsea, offloading Sarr could help ease their wage bill and make room for new signings as they look to rebuild under new management.
Overall, while it may be the end of the road for Malang Sarr at Chelsea, it could also mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for both the player and the club.
