Barcelona and Chelsea in a race to sign Amadou Onana of Everton

The potential pursuit of Amadou Onana by Barcelona adds an intriguing twist to the midfielder’s transfer saga, as the Catalan club joins the race alongside several other Premier League giants.

However, Barcelona’s interest comes with a caveat – they are only willing to pursue the 22-year-old if Everton significantly reduce their £51m asking price to match Barcelona’s financial constraints, which currently stand at £34m. That is as per The Sun via Eurosport.

Despite their financial challenges, Barcelona are closely monitoring Onana‘s situation, indicating their keen interest in the Belgian international. Everton, on the other hand, may seek to capitalise on this interest to spark a bidding war for Onana’s services in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The midfielder’s impressive performances at Goodison Park have not gone unnoticed, with top English clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea all including him on their shortlists. Onana’s arrival at Everton from Lille signalled his potential and he swiftly established himself as a key player under Frank Lampard.

Under the stewardship of Sean Dyche, Onana has continued to play a pivotal role for Everton, despite the club’s relegation battle. His contributions on the field have been instrumental, further enhancing his appeal to potential suitors.

For Chelsea, securing the services of Onana could prove to be a significant boost. As the club languishes in 11th place, reinforcements are needed to rejuvenate the squad and spark a turnaround in results. Onana’s defensive midfield prowess would provide valuable support and stability to the team, potentially addressing some of the issues plaguing Chelsea’s performances this season.

Whether Chelsea opts to pursue Onana will depend on various factors, including the club’s transfer budget, strategic priorities, and negotiations with Everton regarding the midfielder’s valuation. However, there is no denying that Onana’s arrival would be a welcome addition to Stamford Bridge, offering a promising solution to the team’s midfield woes.
