Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea captain Reece James could miss entire season

Mauricio Pochettino’s injury update on Reece James won’t go well with Chelsea fans after he revealed the fullback could be out for the remainder of the season. James is currently undergoing rehabilitation after returning from hamstring surgery.

The fullback has endured another season blighted with injuries. James suffered a hamstring ailment in the first game of the season and was sidelined for two months, but despite returning, he continued to pick up injury setbacks, which saw the Blues captain opt for surgery.

However, the fullback is racing for his recovery to return before the end of the season. But Pochettino’s words put another worrying season on hold for James, who might miss the campaign. Speaking in the press conference, the Argentine updated James on his injury and said via Standard Sport:

“No, I don’t know. It’s difficult to say something because I don’t want you to go, ‘but, oh, [you said this]. We will assess it week by week, and we will see. We hope yes, we hope that he will be available for the end of the season.”

Pochettino doesn’t sound very hopeful about James’ comeback and believes the team will simply need to be ready for the fullback’s return the following season. Unfortunately, a fullback with his sort of talent has to remain on the sidelines during his best years. Before deciding on James’s fitness, the Blues will need to evaluate his current stage of recovery.

James and numerous other players have seen setbacks in their recuperation, which calls into serious question the medical staff and raises serious concerns for the management and the team’s performance this season.

Let’s see if James will return before the end of the season, but we shouldn’t take any risk with his recovery and let him take his time in his recuperation.
