Cole Palmer says he left Manchester City for Chelsea to secure more game-time

Cole Palmer has seen his decision to leave Manchester City for Chelsea in the summer transfer window prove to be a masterstroke, as the forward has excelled since joining the West London club.

In explaining his departure from City, Palmer cited his readiness for regular playing time as a key factor. Moving to Chelsea represented a significant career decision for him, given the club’s challenging circumstances last season, including a squad overhaul and a change in management.

Palmer’s arrival has brought a significant boost to Chelsea’s attacking prowess, with the 21-year-old already notching an impressive 11 goals in the Premier League this season. His ability to join a struggling squad and immediately enhance their goal-scoring threat highlights the impact he has made since arriving at Chelsea.

Palmer was once again on the scoresheet in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United, as he struck in the 57th minute. It was a big win for the Blues after a 2-2 draw with Brentford. And after the game, the 21-year-old revealed why he left City for Chelsea and told Sky Sports via Fabrizio Romano:

“I decided to leave City because I thought I was ready to play football week in and week out. That’s the reason I came to Chelsea. I wanted to showcase my ability week in and week out, like I said. Thankfully, it’s paid off.”

Cole Palmer has scored 11 goals this season.

Palmer’s decision to depart Manchester City was significant given the club’s recent success under one of the top managers in the sport. Departing a team that had just achieved a treble and was performing at its peak must have been a difficult choice, as it meant potentially sacrificing the opportunity to continue winning trophies.

However, Palmer opted to join Chelsea, a club undergoing significant changes and facing uncertainty both in terms of management and squad dynamics. Despite the challenges, he saw an opportunity to make an impact and contribute to the team’s future success. This decision speaks to Palmer’s ambition and belief in his abilities to thrive in a new environment, even amidst adversity.
