Chelsea are chasing a striker for a while and even looked at Liverpool star Darwin Nunez last summer. Despite spending over a billion dollars since Todd Boehly took over Chelsea in the summer of 2022, they are still chasing a new number nine. Victor Osimhen as well as his Nigerian teammate Victor Boniface have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The striker vows would have been far sighted last summer as Liverpool are said to have rejected Chelsea’s approach for Darwin Nunez.
Since Darwin Nunez’ joined Liverpool for a club-record fee, he has extensively been part of fan debates about his potential and consistency. Despite the scrutiny from fans and media, the 24-year-old has scored 28 goals and further provided 15 assists in 79 appearances for Liverpool so far. He has been generating a goal contribution for every 105 minutes played.
Darwin Nunez has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions this season.
The Uruguayan international is still subject to scrutiny when he misses his chances. Despite that he has been an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
His integral role under Jurgen Klopp didn’t stop Chelsea to make a move for him. Chelsea tested Liverpool’s stance on Darwin Nunez last summer transfer window, according to a report by Paul Joyce of the Times.
Paul Joyce writes that Darwin Nunez was looked at by Todd Boehly as part of his summer renovation of the Chelsea squad. The proposal by Chelsea when came to Liverpool was promptly turned down by the Reds from Merseyside.
Liverpool rate Nunez really highly and it makes sense. He is destined for greatness and Chelsea can forget about signing him.
