Brentford seeking a move for Jonathan David as Chelsea target Ivan Toney’s replacement

Ivan Toney, one of the hottest prospects currently in the Premier League, is set to be pursued by plenty of English clubs come the summer window, and Brentford will hope to seek his replacement.

And it looks like they have already identified his successor; as per Football Transfers, (h/t ESPN), the Bees have set their sights on LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David, who scored eight goals in 21 Ligue 1 matches.

The 24-year-old has been seen as one of the star players who will fill Toney’s boots if he leaves the Bees next season. The England international has been sought by Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, Thomas Frank’s side will face competition from other English clubs such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United for the Lille striker’s signing and it remains to be seen who will triumph.

The Bees know they will make a great profit from Tony’s departure, having slapped a £100 million price tag on him, and it will be interesting to see which club will be keen on spending that much.

Will Chelsea go all out for Toney next summer?

Chelsea have expressed their interest in Toney and his addition is instant reinforcement in our striking line. But before making any approach, their main attempt is to make some profit, as the Blues are in danger of breaking the Financial Fair Play Rule.

Brentford wants to Toney with David.

He is an ideal poacher who has impressive positional awareness in the box and makes use of every chance. His return from ban has already seen him score three goals, and this instant impact is something the Blues are desperate to add to solve their goal-scoring woes.

However, they are also eager to sign Victor Osimhen, and they will need to decide decisively next summer over which striker to pursue because acquiring a productive centre-forward continues to be a top objective for the forthcoming season.
