Craig Burley analyses contrasting performances of Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk at Chelsea

Chelsea FC’s attacking dynamics have been under scrutiny, with former Blue Craig Burley providing insights into the performances of two notable players, Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk.

While praising Palmer for his impressive contributions this season, Burley expressed reservations about Mudryk’s end product, highlighting the distinct playing styles of the two Chelsea attackers.

Palmer, the 20-year-old English talent, has been a standout performer for Chelsea, showcasing guile and balance in his play. Burley acknowledged Palmer’s ability to deliver end product consistently, contributing 12 goals in the Premier League this season. The former Chelsea midfielder sees Palmer as a player with the potential to make a significant impact in the final third.

Mykhailo Mudryk is still a work in progress at Chelsea Football Club.

In contrast, Burley turned his attention to Mykhailo Mudryk who arrived at Chelsea last January for a substantial fee. While acknowledging Mudryk’s pace, Burley expressed concern over the player’s current lack of end product. Here is what Burley told ESPN FC about the £88.5m man:

“They’re different players, but Mykhailo Mudryk is all about pace and has at this moment in his career has basically very little end product, whereas Cole Palmer, as Don [Hutchison] said, there’s more of a guile and a balance about him and he’s all about end product.”

Despite scoring crucial goals against Arsenal, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace, Mudryk’s overall output has not matched the expectations set by his hefty price tag.

Burley’s analysis delves into the contrasting styles of Palmer and Mudryk, underscoring the importance of end product in the attacking third. The former Chelsea midfielder pointed out that Mudryk’s playing style is centred around pace but highlighted the need for improvement in terms of productivity.

Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk are two of the most talented players in the Chelsea squad.

Chelsea invested significantly in Mudryk, expecting a higher level of output from the Ukrainian forward. While Mudryk has shown signs of improvement with recent goals, there is still work to be done to meet the club’s expectations. Hopefully, he continues the good run of form he’s on for the past few games, and gives us more reason to cheer as the season goes on.
