As per the Evening Standard, Mykhaylo Mudryk has given Chelsea a respite regarding injury issues after the forward was seen training for the next Ukraine game despite picking up a calf injury against England.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk player was asked to be subbed off in the 90th minute of the 1-1 Euro 2024 qualifying draw with England. Mudryk fell to the ground weirdly when he tried to escape Kyle Walker’s press. There would have been palpable concern amidst the Chelsea faithful that moment.
The attacker appeared to have sustained an injury, but Chelsea, who are already plagued by injuries, must have felt a great deal of relaxation thanks to his participation in Ukraine training.
The Blues have been dealing with several injuries with 11 players sidelined, the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, and Christopher Nkunku. Mudryk has been listed for the next game against Italy in San Siro on Monday. Italy and Ukraine are presently fighting to finish in second place in Group C, with England currently in first place.
Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that these two matches will provide the 22-year-old with the desperately needed self-assurance to persuade Chelsea to play him in the next game. An unpolished diamond, Mudryk lacks that x factor and consistency since arriving in the Premier League.
Mudryk has seldom played for Chelsea this year, usually coming as a replacement. This has undoubtedly impacted his ability to play comfortably. Additionally, Pochettino has not indicated that he will start the forward instead of Ben Chilwell, who is playing on the left flank. The good news is that he won’t be injured and will be available for the match against Bournemouth on September 17.
Since we paid a significant sum of money to sign the 22-year-old, we hope the Argentine manager will consider giving him more chances to allow him to find his footing. If his talent goes to waste, it will have an impact on us. It is understandable if he makes mistakes since that is how he will mature as a player.
