West Ham eyeing summer move for talented young Chelsea striker

West Ham United are considering a summer swoop for Chelsea striker Armando Broja

According to the Guardian, West Ham United are now eyeing Chelsea striker Armando Broja, who is currently recovering from injury after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament. The 21-year-old limped off during Chelsea’s friendly game against Aston Villa last year.

The academy player was not included in Chelsea’s pre-season tour to the USA as he remained in London to fully recuperate from the injury. Hopefully, the worst is behind him and the youngster is on the path to recovery.

Last year, the Albanian striker only managed one goal in 12 Premier League games before suffering a season-ending injury. The 21-year-old was sent on loan to Southampton in 2021–2022 and went on to make a dent there.

Following the acquisition of Nicolas Jackson, the centre-forward could find it hard to find a route to Pochettino’s starting XI and might be used as Jackson’s backup. It suits him well given that he is sorely lacking in match fitness.

Despite having two options in the No. 9 role, the Blues are still looking to add a striker, as they are interested in signing Dusan Vlahovic and Elye Wahi. However, it is also understood the striker wants to remain at Chelsea and fight for his position under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Broja was linked to the same club last season as well, and the striker was open to a move to get more playing time. But Chelsea managed to retain him and he could have a bigger role to play next season.

As he is still young and has shown the ability to mould into an intriguing centre-forward, using Broja as Jackson’s backup signing will ensure that he gets enough playing action and make a trade for him conceivable if we acquire another attacker. As previously stated, the Blues are in the market for a striker, but there doesn’t appear to be any genuine enthusiasm at this time.

Pochettino appears to be confident in the Albanian international for the upcoming season. Although given that he is still recovering from an injury, it may take him some time to get his bearings once he gets the opportunity to play.
