Tottenham Hotspur expresses interest in signing Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku

Tottenham Hotspur are still in the market for a striker as they look for a replacement for Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich and have held ‘preliminary talks’ with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku ahead of a potential move to N17.

According to Calciomercato, (h/t Express) the Spurs have made an attempt to hold preliminary talks with the Belgian striker, but Tottenham are not desperate to sign the 30-year–old. It would suggest that Lukaku is just one of the players Spurs are eyeing at the moment.

However, Lukaku’s wages could act as a key issue in hindering the move as Tottenham wants to balance their wages. But Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has not confirmed if the club wants to replace Kane with the Belgian just yet.

Tottenham Hotspur holds ‘preliminary talks’ with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to replace Harry Kane.

Kane finally left Spurs after years of continued brilliance, leaving a huge void in their attack. The England skipper gave much to Tottenham over the years but it is now time for him to pursue a new legacy. This could very well work in our favour should Lukaku end up moving to north London.

Now they look for his replacement, as they have Richarlison as the only option to lead the attacking line. But his inconsistency in front of goal has compelled the North Londoners to look for a more experienced striker. Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at Inter Milan, has no intention to remain at Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino also doesn’t want him to be part of his plans for this campaign.

Tottenham would benefit from having a seasoned striker. The Belgian forward’s form improved towards the end of the previous campaign. He has a keen eye for goals and understands how to adjust to the competition, having played in the Premier League before. He is 30 years old and has many years to play in the top league in Europe.

Richarlison will have less pressure to score in every game and can serve as his backup by bringing in fresh legs. This will help the Brazilian forward improve with each game. Chelsea, who paid a record fee to get him from Inter, will be content to let him go and will be hopeful that Spurs will make a reasonable offer.
