“Be challenging”- Noni Madueke unwilling to compromise on Chelsea ambitions

Noni Madueke believes Chelsea should be challenging for titles

Chelsea star Noni Madueke believes that a club the size of this Stamford Bridge side should be challenging for major titles year after year.

In the previous campaign, the Blues presented lacklustre displays and failed to compete in any of the competitions they were part of. We were knocked out of the domestic cup competitions early and failed to live up to expectations in the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal early on did not help Chelsea’s cause either. Graham Potter was unable to stamp his authority at the West London club either and was dismissed after a few months.

Similarly, Frank Lampard was in charge for a short period of time towards the end of the 2022/23 term and struggled. The Blues were beaten resoundingly by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Madueke joined Chelsea in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven. At that point, the Blues were in a meltdown and it was arguably not the best moment for a new player to arrive. The forward ended up making 12 appearances in all competitions last season for us, scoring one goal.

Speaking to Sky Sports via reporter Olivia Buzaglo on Twitter (h/t football.london), the English national has clear ambitions for the ongoing campaign.

“I think if you start a season at Chelsea & don’t believe you can be challenging, you shouldn’t be in the building to be honest.”

Madueke was unavailable for the opening game of the new season against Liverpool. The 21-year-old was on the sidelines and missed the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw. But Chelsea put in an encouraging performance.

The former PSV star will evidently play a key role in the team this season. With the departure of Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic, we evidently need players to cement their place out wide.

Madueke has the talent and has shown the ambition required to be at the Stamford Bridge side. Hopefully, the English national will be part of the Blues’ team that gets back to the top under Mauricio Pochettino.
