Newcastle United ‘keen’ on Chelsea full-back Lewis Hall

Chelsea full-back Lewis Hall is being eyed by Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the ongoing transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Magpies are ‘keen’ on acquiring the services of the English national this summer from the Blues. To that end, the Stamford Bridge side could let him leave on loan in the coming weeks.

Crystal Palace are also being linked with a move for the youngster. However, a deal with the Selhurst Park side is on standby at the moment.

Recently, the 18-year-old signed a new six-year contract at the West London club. While Eddie Howe’s team hold genuine interest in the defender, Financial Fair Play (FFP) is a concern for them.

Hall made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea. He has mostly played for the Blues’ reserve teams for now. However, the youngster was given a few opportunities in the previous campaign.

The left-back made his debut for the Stamford Bridge side in the 2021/22 term. He played the full 90 minutes against Chesterfield in the 5-0 win in the FA Cup third round.

Last season, the defender got a few chances to play for the senior squad and he caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays. The English national made 11 appearances in all competitions for the West London club.

For now, Mauricio Pochettino has Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella at his disposal on the left-hand side of the defence. The English national seems to be the first choice, with the Spaniard failing to impress in his debut campaign.

Newcastle have impressed since the arrival of Howe. Dan Burn has been the player who has played at left-back for them a lot since the former Bournemouth manager’s appointment.

Hall has showcased immense potential. However, regular game time is arguably going to be key in the youngster’s development. Whether that will be possible in a Magpies team that is flying high at the moment is difficult to tell.
