“They usually get it” Jurgen Klopp fires shots at Chelsea transfer outlay following Stamford Bridge stalemate

Jurgen Klopp took a swipe at the Chelsea transfer business following season opener

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp responded to Mauricio Pochettino with a cheeky comment and took a dig at the Chelsea transfer spending after they were outbid for Moises Caicedo on Sunday night.

Chelsea and Liverpool shared spoils in their opening game of the 2023–24 Premier League season as Luiz Diaz and Axel Disasi scored goals for their respective teams. However, Chelsea were a far better side and should have concluded the game with a win, but they squandered plenty of their chances to make the Reds pay.

On the same day, the Blues reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Moises Caicedo, whom they had been pursuing for months, for £115 million. Beating the Reds off the field for the in-demand midfielder is another feather in Todd Boehly’s cap.

However, at a point, the West Londoners thought they missed out on Caicedo’s signing when Liverpool agreed to sign the midfielder for a British transfer record of £111 million. But the 21-year-old preferred a move to Stamford Bridge and we now have the last laugh.

Caicedo is set to sign an eight-year deal, will undergo a medical on Monday, and will soon be unveiled as a Chelsea player. Surely Jurgen Klopp would have been frustrated by the late developments in the transfer saga.

When asked about Pochettino’s comments that they want more signings, (h/t Mirror) Klopp did not hold back and said:

“That’s what each Chelsea manager wants, and usually they get it.”

The Blues are acting in their best interests and to restore the club’s competitiveness; therefore, if Klopp had been in Pochettino’s place, he would have made the same number of signings. For Klopp, it would undoubtedly be upsetting because the club had not given him enough support to spend money in the transfer window and give him the tools he needed to compete once more.

It is also fair that the fact that we were able to bring in Caicedo hurts them, but this is what the transfer window is all about. He preferred joining us over joining them, and he had some reservations about joining them. Furthermore, there is nothing stopping the club from continuing to spend additional money on acquiring quality players.
