Chelsea and Levi Colwill have reached agreement to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge

According to the Guardian, Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with Levi Colwill for a six-year deal, quashing rumours of him leaving the club in the near future.

The 20-year-old has been linked with moves to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool, but the Blues are doing everything to keep the defender for the future. They now appear to have achieved just that.

Colwill, who spent the entire 2022–23 season on loan to Brighton, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign that saw him become a top prospect in the Premier League. He is now ready to don the mantle of a senior star in west London.

Brighton have seen their bid rejected by Chelsea and wanted them to include the centre-back in a swap deal with Moises Caicedo, but Chelsea have no intention to sell him and see the Englishman in their plans for next season.

Colwill, who had only two years remaining in his contract with an option to extend, and now Blues fans will finally have good news to hear as the U21 England International set to remain at Stamford Bridge. With his future now more or less secure, the time is ripe for us to build the rearguard around him.

The defender also believes he will be part of the first team and will have a huge role to play next season, and the centre-back has been offered £100,000 a week. However, the deal is yet to be finalised, but talks have so far been moving in a positive direction, and a new deal could be inked by Colwill soon.

The 20-year-old had a standout season at Brighton, and Chelsa was persuaded that he ought to be an integral component of Mauricio Pochettino’s plan after that. Given that Benoit Badiashile’s return from injury is still questionable, Colwill is poised to share regular playing time alongside Thiago Silva or Axel Disasi for Chelsea in the upcoming season.

He has already demonstrated proficiency at age 20 and will only become better with the proper manager. Let’s hope Chelsea completes the extension of his contract quickly; after all, supporters must have become weary of hearing him linked with a new club every week.
