As per the Daily Mail, Chelsea and Tottenham are among the clubs who would bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney who has signed up for CAA Stellar firm in view to get a move.
The England international, who is banned from playing football till January for pleading guilty on betting charges, could be on the move in the winter transfer window. Along with Chelsea and Spurs, Manchester United could also join the race to make a bid for the striker. Brentford value him at around £80m. Hence, any move won’t come at a cheap.
While it is understandable why Chelsea and Tottenham want to sign a striker, it would make no sense for United to splurge big money on one after doing the same to get Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Blues are light in that department with young Nicolas Jackson as the only option currently. Armando Broja will become an option soon but he is also young in the circuit. Spurs, on the other hand, have just lost their talisman Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. They have the money and a slot available for Toney to go there at the price quoted by Brentford.
It would be interesting to see where the 27-year-old chooses to go. He has the quality and experience to make most Premier League attacks better, barring maybe Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Let’s hope Chelsea are in the race for him and have the money in the bank to make a big offer come January. Getting a striker like Toney could elevate this young team to levels higher than ever before. The competition will be fierce, hence agreeing on personal terms could turn out to be a crucial aspect of this deal.
