Mason Mount records a video message for Chelsea fans after leaving the club for Manchester United

Mason Mount sends a message to Chelsea fans following his exit from the club to sign for Manchester United in an Instagram video.

Mount has agreed a five-year deal with the Red Devils. His contract with Chelsea was due to expire next year. There was no chance of him extending his stay here.

The 24-year-old was United boss Erik ten Hag’s primary midfield target for the summer. While he and his club would be happy with this deal, Chelsea fans should feel slightly done by, especially knowing that he will play for a rival club in the Premier League.

Here are some of the written words of Mount’s message (h/t BBC, via Mount Instagram video):

“I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea. I feel you deserve more than a written statement so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I have been for all of your support over the last 18 years.

“I know some of you won’t be happy with my decision, but it’s what’s right for me at this moment in my career.”

While we do not know much about what happened behind the scenes, it is disappointing to see the England international leave the club after 18 years of association.

Coming back to the medium Mount chose to convey his message, it feels like a weird move. Most players write a note to share their emotions with the fans after an event takes place. Sharing a video makes no difference.

Let’s move on then. The challenge for Chelsea and boss Mauricio Pochettino would be to either replace him in the transfer market or make Christopher Nkunku play that playmaker role in the team.

With no European distraction next season, Pochettino will have time between league games to sort and iron his tactics out. It would probably turn out well and help him and the team perform at their best for every domestic encounter. Before all of that though, an important few weeks are coming up. A good pre-season can set up a perfect platform for positive things to come.
