“I’d keep him”- Luca Toni urges Juventus not to sign Chelsea star and stick with Vlahovic

Luca Toni claims Juventus should keep Dusan Vlahovic instead of buying Romelu Lukaku

Former Italian striker Luca Toni has urged Juventus to keep hold of Dusan Vlahovic instead of going for Romelu Lukaku, who wants to leave Chelsea.

Juventus have also sent their opening bid for the 30-year-old and are yet to hear from Chelsea, while Inter Milan have abandoned the race to sign the Belgian forward.

This comes after claims that the former Manchester United striker is open to a move to Juventus. But the Old Lady will have to offload the Serbian striker in order to sign the Belgian hitman.

For a while, Inter were the only club negotiating with Chelsea to sign Lukaku, but they have shifted their focus to signing Folarin Balogun. Lukaku is now expected to return to training on Monday, but it is understood he won’t travel with Chelsea for the USA pre-season tour.

A former Juventus striker feels the Old Lady should retain the 23-year-old striker instead of going for Lukaku. Speaking to Milan outlet Gazzetta dello Sport via L’Interista, he said:

“Dusan is a top player; there’s no debating that, despite some of his difficulties. Lukaku is a great player; he would be a great signing. But given Vlahovic’s age, I’d keep him since he can represent both the present and the future.”

Toni has a point here; Vlahovic is young and will undoubtedly improve because he has experience playing in the same league, but Lukaku is 30 and isn’t getting any younger. But Lukaku has his own strengths, especially when it comes to experience. He is also a very good player in the air and physically very difficult to nudge off the ball.

But if Juventus manages the Serbian striker effectively, their squad will have one of the league’s most gifted strikers. They agreed to pay Fiorentina a monster £66.6million fee in January 2022 to sign him. Obviously, they saw something very good in him.

If they want to sell him off so early on in his career, one can guess that it could be because of financial problems. For those who want Lukaku out of Chelsea, Vlahovic’s potential exit remains a scenario they would be hoping for because Juve seem like the only serious team interested in him right now.
