Leicester City are interested in signing young Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei on loan

As per the Telegraph (subscription required), Championship side Leicester City are working on signing Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei on a loan deal this summer.

Casadei, who is currently one of the sought-after players in the English second division, is wanted by the Foxes as they aim to come straight back into the Premier League by the end of next season.

The young Italian was signed by Chelsea from Inter Milan for a fee of around £12m last summer. Although he is yet to make a senior appearance here, his performances for the youth side and in the U20 World Cup have been impressive.

In the latter, Casadei scored seven goals and assisted two in seven games. He led the Italian side to the final before losing to Uruguay.

A good move?

The 20-year-old is a technically strong midfield player who is at his best when asked to play the box-to-box role. He is someone who can make a difference to the game in both boxes.

But, having not played any senior football in England, a loan move to Leicester would be right for Casadei. The former Inter player can get regular game time there with a chance to push the Foxes back to the big league at the first time of asking.

Once the 20-year-old has some experience, then he can come back to Stamford Bridge next season and compete for a place in the side under Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine is known for trusting youngsters in his first-team set-up, so Casadei should remain optimistic about his chances in SW6 in the long run.

More Chelsea News

Everything points to the direction that Chelsea should allow Casadei to go on loan to Leicester, unless a Premier League team enters the fray with the promise of offering him guaranteed minutes. Let’s hope it happens quickly so that the player spends the majority of the pre-season preparing with the Foxes (or another club) rather than staying here. There’s a lot to come from the Italian in a Chelsea shirt in the years to come.
