Juventus reject opening bid from Chelsea for Dusan Vlahovic

As per Corriere della Sera, (h/t Football.London) an initial bid from Chelsea of €60 million (£51.5 million) for Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic was turned down by Juventus.

Chelsea are keen on signing the Serbian striker, who is also looking to leave the Old Lady with a move to a Premier League club remains to be on the cards. The Blues need a reliable goal scorer following a poor 2022/23 season that saw them struggle to find the back of the net.

Arsenal earlier made an attempt to sign the 23-year-old, but the striker instead opted to join Juventus in the previous summer window from Fiorentina. Whether his stay in Turin will now be short lived remains to be seen.

The youngster struggled to score goals for the Serie A giants, netting only 14 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. It represents a significant fall off from the numbers he put forward at Fiorentina.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen on adding the 23-year-old despite the Blues’ acquisitions of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku this summer. It is also understood that the Serbian striker is looking to test his career somewhere. His agent, Darko Ristic, has held talks with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea regarding a move this summer.

However, the Old Lady won’t make his signing simple, as they are anticipated to demand a fee in the region of £77 million for the Serbian striker. Selling Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a reasonable fee will certainly make our task easier.

Aubameyang, Lukaku, and even Fofana have all been linked to exits, with the latter player perhaps joining another team on loan. Signing Vlahovic will give Pochettino a reliable player who is capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

The Argentine manager managed to develop Harry Kane into one of the world’s best frontmen at Tottenham Hotspur. There is no reason why he cannot repeat the trick with Vlahovic in west London.

Mauricio Pochettino has a lengthy history of developing young players and is adept at helping them reach their full potential. Hopefully Vlahovic will be his latest project at Stamford Bridge.
