Inter Milan boss Simeone Inzaghi admits to the club trying their best to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

Inter Milan boss Simeone Inzaghi reveals that the club will do their best to sign wantaway Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku during the summer window.

Inzaghi also revealed that it was he who wanted to sign the Belgian international last summer. Eventually, Inter signed him on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

Lukaku, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from the San Siro-based club for a fee of around £97.5m in 2021, had an underwhelming season back in west London before going on loan to Italy last summer.

Here’s what Inzaghi said regarding this topic, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano in his tweet:

Sky Sports report that there is an agreement between Chelsea and Lukaku that an exit for the latter this summer is the best solution. The striker is ready to do whatever it takes to leave the club anyway, including taking a pay cut.

A couple of days ago, Evening Standard revealed that Inter will make a fresh bid to sign the 30-year-old. Their initial bid of a loan with an obligation to buy next summer for £21m was rejected. Chelsea will demand something in the region of £40m.

What a waste of money this has been for the Blues. They spent a whopping £97.5m to sign a striker who had an excellent couple of seasons with Nerazzurri under Antonio Conte.

He arrived at the club and it instantly looked like a match made in the gutters. Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s style of play did not suit him as well and he was notably left out of the starting XI in big games towards the end of the 2021-22 season.

Let’s hope the sale takes place quickly and the club has enough time to try their best to sign a striker of their own this summer. They are short in that department by some distance. Does Mauricio Pochettino have a solution to this issue? Doubtful of that unless a big signing is made.
