Tottenham Hotspur enter the fray for 23-year-old Chelsea star

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

According to Football London (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea star Conor Gallagher is attracting interest from cross-city rivals Tottenham Hotspur with his future at Stamford Bridge less than secure.

Gallagher is been among the players who could leave in the transfer window as the Blues set to cut down on their over-sized squad. Newcastle United are also interested in the 23-year-old’s services.

The midfielder failed to produce an outstanding year and saw little action under Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. Although he enjoyed more game time under interim manager Frank Lampard, it has done little to enhance his reputation.

The north Londoners have appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, who has seen Gallagher as someone who can bring energy to their midfield. The midfielder is a decent player and could thrive under the Australian manager.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will need to sign a defensive midfielder this summer. But they will first have to make room for new signings as they already have Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount in their ranks.

Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, and Mount’s futures remain uncertain as they could leave Chelsea in the transfer window. The Croatian has personally agreed to join Manchester City, while Mount is on United’s radar. Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek is open to a move to AC Milan.

Gallagher can also resurrect his career if he decides to join Tottenham because the Blues have shown little evidence of keeping him, and are open to selling him if a good offer comes in.

The England international is a capable midfielder, but he lacks the technical ability that Enzo Fernandez requires to assist him in the middle of the play when he is higher up the pitch.

More Chelsea News:

The 23-year-old could struggle to acquire enough playing time for next season if we are able to bring in a defensive midfielder. Postecoglou might then be able to resurrect his career at Tottenham.
