Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard will depart Real Madrid one year sooner than expected after reaching a separation agreement with the club.
He became one of the priciest transfers when Hazard decided to sign a €100 million deal to join Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2019.
He was unable to carry over his strong Chelsea form at Los Blancos, though, as injuries plagued him throughout each of his four seasons. According to Football.London in March this year, the Belgian was linked with a potential return to Chelsea.
The Belgian forward has only played six times in La Liga this season without scoring a goal. In the meantime, he was one of Chelsea’s greatest players, and his dribbling earned comparisons to Lionel Messi.
It was unfortunate to see the 32-year-old unable to make an impact at the Spanish club. (h/t ESPN) Real announced on their official site that they will part ways with former Chelsea forward
“Real Madrid C.F. and Eden Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player will be released from the club as of June 30, 2023. Eden Hazard has been part of our club for four seasons, in which he has won eight trophies: one European Cup, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two leagues, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups.”
“Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new period.”
He should have thrived there and made a name for himself like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi but unfortunately, it was one of the biggest failures a player could experience in his career.
However, injuries ended his playing time, causing a decline in performance as well as a loss of confidence in his ability to dribble, score goals, and do other things. It will be wise for Chelsea not to meddle with the situation now that he is a free agent.
Hopefully, a sentimental return isn’t on the cards. He will likely command a handsome wage and given his injuries and inconsistency in recent seasons, he is no longer the player who was worshipped by the Chelsea faithful during his time in west London. Let’s see where he heads off to next.
