Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United will make first bid for Mason Mount despite Chelsea’s clear stance on his price tag

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are preparing an initial bid for Mason Mount despite Chelsea’s firm stance on the midfielder’s asking price.

Despite United wanting to sign the 24-year-old they are hesitant to match Chelsea’s asking price for the England international.

However, after extensive negotiations between the two parties on his contract renewal, the England international has made it obvious that he now wants to quit the club.

Additionally, it is believed that Mount has reached a contract agreement with United and is more inclined to move to Old Trafford than to Liverpool. Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager, wants to keep the 24-year-old, though.

Erik Ten Hag also wants Mount, but it will be difficult for United to secure the midfielder because Chelsea won’t sell the Cobham product for less than £70 million.

After missing most of the games due to an abdominal problem, Mount has had a difficult season. The 24-year-old has recovered from surgery and is now on vacation.

Chelsea would make a significant profit from Mount’s exit, which would be preferable since it would greatly benefit our salary cap and allow us to sign more players. Of course, it means that we lose a talented homegrown player.

But if we are diligent in our research and scouting, we can use the funds well to sign multiple players. A player like Mount, who can immediately provide value to the club, is worth what we are asking for him.

However, it appears that this dispute could drag on for some time. We would definitely not want to lose a player like him for free and perhaps Manchester United know that – hence the stalemate.
