Chelsea approach PSG for 31-year-old megastar

Chelsea have contacted Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of Neymar

As per Le10Sport, (h/t ESPN) Chelsea reached out to Paris Saint-Germain regarding the acquisition of Neymar and is prepared to begin negotiations with the Ligue 1 team.

Todd Boehly has said to be a major fan of Neymar, who sought to sign him during the winter transfer window. Meanwhile, PSG are still open to selling the 31-year-old player, who has fallen in the club’s pecking order.

The Brazilian was also the target of a fan protest outside his home alongside his teammate Lionel Messi. The Brazilian superstar could hence be considering his future in Paris.

The former Santos forward was enjoying a prolific season with PSG before he picked up an ankle injury that saw him sidelined for the entire season.

Other clubs have also shown interest in him, but the Blues seem more interested, and with Mauricio Pochettino beginning his work as Chelsea manager. Neymar will be well familiar with the Argentine coach, as he has already played under him at PSG.

However, if Chelsea are to sign him, they will have to accommodate his huge wages, and it also depends if they are signing him on loan or permanently.

West Londoners already have enough players who operate from his position, and with Christopher Nkunku potentially arriving, it will make it more complicated for Pochettino to predict how Neymar will play in this Chelsea side.

Certainly, he will want to play in the Champions League, which Chelsea cannot provide him with next season, so it could influence his decision. His signing will definitely make the Blues the talk of the town, given the player’s status.

Nevertheless, signing him still doesn’t make sense. Knowing we already have quality players, we should build our project around them instead of buying someone like Neymar who is in his 30s, injury prone, and could put a dent on our wage bill. Not to mention, PSG wouldn’t let him go for peanuts as well.
