Romano claims Chelsea forward has been approached by two Saudi Arabian clubs

Al Ahli and Al Shabab approach Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Chelsea have been contacted by Saudi clubs Al Ahli and Al Shabab.

The 33-year-old striker, who hasn’t played much for Chelsea since joining the team from Barcelona, is likely to leave the club. It just hasn’t clicked for him here, despite the desperate lack of strikers in our ranks.

Aubameyang was signed under Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked later, while under Graham Potter he played and was even withdrawn from this season’s Champions League squad.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker has made it obvious that he wants to quit the team and return to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants will only take him on a free transfer.

In February, LAFC of Major League Soccer reached out to the former Arsenal striker, but the Gabonese international declined because he still prefers to play in Ethiopia.

Regarding Aubameyang, transfer expert Romano posted an update on Twitter and stated:

“Al Ahli and Al Shabab have approached Pierre Aubameyang to discuss a potential move to the Saudi League. Auba turned down MLS side LAFC in February as his priority was to continue in European football. Auba will 100% leave Chelsea this summer. No doubts.”

Given their wealth and previous signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and possibly Karim Benzema, we know how much Saudi clubs can offer him. Once the window opens, fans can expect to see the back of the former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund forward.

Barcelona’s steadfast refusal to make any kind of signing offer will be an important setback for Chelsea because the striker cost them £10 million to acquire.

A move outside Europe, at least right now, to an up-and-coming league like the Saudi Pro League, spells as an acceptance that a player’s time at the top is over. Or, their monetary offer could be too hard to turn down. These are all factors that will have to be considered.
