Raheem Sterling asserted that the Chelsea permanent manager should have the ultimate say in every decision as the Blues get ready to hire Mauricio Pochettino.
The Londoners are currently in 12th place in the Premier League standings and are currently closer to the relegation zone than the European spots. It is am embarrassing position for a side that won the Champions League two years ago to be in.
Chelsea Frank Lampard as their interim manager and he will serve in that capacity through the end of the current campaign. Since Lampard’s arrival, we have tasted nothing but defeat and will look to buck the trend when we face Bournemouth later today.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Chelsea star Raheem Sterling wants the the future manager of Chelsea to be the final decision maker. Doing so will certainly ensure we have a vision and a mission going forward.
‘’I’m not one to tell the club what to do, but from what I can gauge from where I was previously, organisation is the most important thing. Having a manager that has the final say on everything and it being his way with everyone having to follow that.”
‘‘Successful teams always have a manager that comes in, brings his blueprint, and everyone follows. If there are people that don’t follow, then they are not part of the team, and that is how brutal it needs to be at a high level.”
Having worked under Pep Guardiola, Sterling will be aware of the difference the right manager can have on a club’s fortunes. Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Guardiola at Manchester City epitomise just that and it is something we must emulate.
What the England international said is undoubtedly accurate, and we need a manager who can be brutal with the players. Football managers in today’s game need to be ruthless if they want to maintain good control over the players and the locker room.
If they lack this trait or are too polite, the players won’t listen to them, and the locker room will descend into disorder. Only Thomas Tuchel had that air of ruthlessness; he was also demanding, and delivered when it usually mattered.
Players may not have taken Graham Potter seriously since he appeared to be a pleasant guy, and it appears that Frank Lampard is currently experiencing the same problem.
