Three-time PL manager of the season rejects Chelsea approach in a show of loyalty to Serie A club

Jose Mourinho rejects Chelsea approach to show loyalty to AS Roma

Jose Mourinho has won eight major trophies during his two spells as Chelsea manager. Apparently, the club were interested in appointing him for a third spell.

Chelsea’s director, as per Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Football-Italia, recently met with the Portuguese manager to discuss the possibility of adding his name to the club’s managerial shortlist. He refused.

Mourinho is believed to want to meet AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin and stay with the Italian club for the time being. His current deal expires at the end of next season.

Mourinho, 60, has amassed a wealth of experience at teams such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, FC Porto and Tottenham Hotspur. He is one of the very best managers in the history of football.

No Mou for Chelsea

Mourinho led AS Roma to their first major European trophy last season when they won the UEFA Europa Conference League. They are in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League this season.

I Giallorossi face Bayer Leverkusen in the last four with Sevilla and Juventus playing in the other semifinal. There is no reason why they can’t win the competition and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season – something Chelsea will not be playing in.

Like Inter Milan and AC Milan, Roma are on 57 points in Serie A with six games left. They are sixth, trailing the two Milan giants on goal difference. Their problems would have increased after Juventus’ 15-point deduction was negated recently.

His situation at Roma seems stable and as good as, if not better than Chelsea’s. We would also be wise to appoint someone with fresh ideas who can stay here for the long run. Mourinho can promise instant results but given the long-term approach we have taken under Todd Boehly when signing players, we need a manager with a long-term vision for the Blues.
